THE GUARDIAN — After losing his crew in a fatal crash, legendary rescue swimmer Ben Randall (Kevin Costner) is sent to teach at an elite training program for Coast Guard rescue swimmers. While there, he encounters a young, cocky swim champ, Jake Fischer (Ashton Kutcher), who is driven to be the best. Jake follows Randall to Alaska, where they face the dangerous Bering Sea, and Jake learns the true meaning of heroism and sacrifice. Also stars Sela Ward. Rated PG-13 (Touchstone Pictures). MJR, AMC

OPEN SEASON — Boog (the voice of Martin Lawrence), a grizzly bear with no survival skills, meets Elliot (Ashton Kutcher), a scrawny, fast-talking wild mule deer, who arrives in town strapped to the hood of a truck. Against his better judgment, Boog frees Elliot, who attempts to "free" Boog from an idyllic existence with Park Ranger Beth (Debra Messing), who raised him from a cub. The two are relocated together to the wild, three days before hunting season opens. The voice cast also includes Jon Favreau, Billy Connolly and Paul Westerberg. Rated PG (Columbia Pictures). SCHOOL OF SCOUNDRELS — A down-on-his-luck meter reader (Jon Heder) enrolls in a confidence-building class so he can win the love of his dream girl (Jacinda Barrett). He soon discovers that his professor (Billy Bob Thorton) has set his sights on the same woman. Also stars Michael Clarke Duncan, Dan Fogler, Sarah Silverman and Luis Guzman. Rated PG-13. MJR, AMC

ALL THE KING'S MEN — Based on Robert Penn Warren's novel, "All the King's Men," the film charts the spectacular rise and fall of a charismatic Southern politician, "Boss" Willie Stark (Sean Penn). Jude Law co-stars as Jack Burden, the once idealistic, now embittered, ex-reporter who unwittingly fuels Stark's corrupt political ambitions. Also stars Kate Winslet, James Gandolfini, Mark Ruffalo, Patricia Clarkson, Kathy Baker and Anthony Hopkins. Rated PG-13 (Columbia Pictures). MJR

BARNYARD — Computer animated, this is a tale that centers on Otis (Kevin James), a carefree party cow who finally finds the courage to be a leader. Voices also by Sam Elliott, Danny Glover, Courteney Cox and Wanda Sykes. Rated PG (Paramount Pictures). MJR

THE BLACK DAHLIA — Two cops, Lee Blanchard (Aaron Eckhart) and Bucky Bleichert (Josh Hartnett), are called to investigate the homicide of ambitious silver screen B-lister Betty Ann Short (Mia Kirshner) a.k.a. "The Black Dahlia." Rated R (Universal Pictures). MJR, AMC

CARS — En route across the country to compete against two seasoned pros, hotshot rookie racecar Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is detoured in the sleepy town of Radiator Springs. Voices include those of Bonnie Hunt, Paul Newman and Larry the Cable Guy. Rated G (Walt Disney Pictures/Pixar Animation Studios). AP

CLICK — Adam Sandler portrays a family man whose busy career doesn't leave much time for his wife (Kate Beckinsale) and two kids. Unable to figure out which of his many remotes turns on the TV, he buys a one-of-a-kind remote with magical powers. Also stars Christopher Walken, Henry Winkler and Sean Astin. Rated PG-13 (Columbia Pictures). AP

THE COVENANT — Four students at an elite New England boarding school are descendants of the original settlers of Ipswich Colony in the 1600s and have inherited special powers. But, the misuse of those powers can shorten their lives and, once they turn 18, can kill them. Stars include Steven Strait, Sebastian Stan, Jessica Lucas and Wendy Crewson. Rated PG-13 (Screen Gems). DEEP SEA 3D — Viewers take a tour of the depths of nine different seas to see how the creatures there co-exist in a delicate balance of nature. IMAX

THE DESCENT — Six girlfriends meet in a remote part of the Appalachians for their annual caving trip, and they discover that something is lurking under the Earth — monstrous humanoid creatures that prey on the group. Stars Natalie Jackson Mendoza, Shauna MacDonald and Alex Reid. Rated R (Lionsgate Films). AP

EVERYONE'S HERO — In this computer-animated story, a kid who believes he can make a difference teams up with a sassy young girl and some off-the-wall sidekicks to embark on a sometimes perilous, often funny, cross-country quest. Voice talents include Jake T. Austin, Brian Dennehy, Whoopi Goldberg, Raven-Symone, Dana Reeve and Robert Wagner. Rated G (Twentieth Century Fox). MJR, AMC

FLYBOYS — The film is inspired by the epic tale of the young American men who would become known as the legendary Lafayette Escadrille during World War I. They were ordinary boys looking for adventure, and in the process, they became heroes as they took part in the aerial dogfights that played such an integral role in the Allied resistance. Stars Christien Anholt, Max Bollinger, Jake Canuso and James Franco. Rated PG-13 (MGM). MJR, AMC

GRIDIRON GANG — A detention camp probation officer, Sean Porter (The Rock) creates a high school-level football team from a ragtag group of dangerous teenage inmates to teach them self-respect and social responsibility. Also stars Xzibit, Vanessa Ferlito, Leon Rippy and Kevin Dunn. Rated PG-13 (Columbia Pictures). MJR, AMC

HOLLYWOODLAND — Inspired by a Hollywood real-life mystery, the film follows a 1950s private detective (Adrien Brody) who, while investigating the mysterious death of "Superman" star George Reeves (Ben Affleck), uncovers unexpected connections to his own life. Also stars Diane Lane, Bob Hoskins, Robin Tunney, Kathleen Robertson and Molly Parker. Rated R (Focus Features). MJR

THE ILLUSIONIST — Set in 1900 Vienna, Eisenheim (Edward Norton) is a brilliant stage magician pitted against the power-hungry crown prince (Rufus Sewell) and Chief Inspector Uhl (Paul Giamatti). Between Eisenheim and the prince is the woman they both love, Duchess Sophie von Teschen (Jessica Biel), engaged to marry the crown prince. Rated PG-13 (Yari Film Group). MJR

JACKASS TWO — This sequel to "Jackass The Movie" unleashes the cast and crew as they get even uglier around the globe. The cast includes Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera, Ryan Dunn, Dave England and Ehren McGhehey. Rated R (Paramount Pictures). MJR, AMC

JET LI'S FEARLESS — In his final martial arts film, Jet Li plays real-life martial arts legend Huo Yuanjia, who became the most famous fighter in all of China at the turn of the 20th century. Also stars Betty Sun, Dong Yong and Nakamura Shidou. Rated PG-13 (Rouge Pictures). MJR, AMC

LITTLE MAN — A man (Shawn Wayans) who is anxious to be a father mistakes an extremely short, baby-faced criminal on the lam (Marlon Wayans) as his newly adopted son. Also stars Kerry Washington and Tracy Morgan. Rated PG-13 (Columbia Pictures). AP

LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE — The Hoovers, a motley six-member family, trek from Albuquerque to the Little Miss Sunshine pageant in Redondo Beach, Calif., to fulfill the deepest wish of 7-year-old Olive (Abigail Breslin), an ordinary little girl with big dreams. Also stars Steve Carell, Greg Kinnear and Paul Dano. Rated R (Fox Searchlight Pictures). MJR

MONSTER HOUSE — In this computer-animated film, three kids do battle with a mysterious house that threatens anyone who crosses its path. Among the stars providing voices are Steve Buscemi, Nick Cannon and Fred Willard. Rated PG (Columbia Pictures). MJR (3-D only)

PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST — Capt. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) discovers he owes a blood debt to the legendary Davey Jones (Bill Nighy). His problems interfere with the wedding plans of Will (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Kiera Knightly), who want to marry. Also stars Geoffrey Rush and Lee Arenberg. Rated PG-13 (Walt Disney Pictures). AMC

ROVING MARS — The reality of the Mars surface as seen through the eyes of the Mars Rovers — Spirit and Opportunity — is shown up close and personal as the Rovers travel over the rugged terrain. IMAX

SUPERMAN RETURNS — Following an absence of several years, Superman (Brandon Routh) comes back to Earth. While an old enemy, Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey), plots to render him powerless, the Man of Steel realizes that the woman he loves, Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth), has moved on with her life. THE WICKER MAN — When California Highway Patrol officer Edward Malus (Nicholas Cage) investigates the disappearance of his former fiancee's daughter on a remote Pacific Northwest island, residents ridicule his investigation, insisting that the missing child never existed. YOU, ME AND DUPREE — Newlyweds Carl and Molly Peterson (Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson) are just starting their new life together when Randy Dupree (Owen Wilson), Carl's oldest friend, needs a place to stay.
