MUSIC TO YOUR EARS



Blues band Howlin' Mercy will be in the spotlight at 7 p.m. Sunday as part of the "Concerts on the Commons" at the Macomb Street Commons, Macomb at Meridian streets, Grosse Ile.

A feature called "Spotlight on Youth" invites young musicians to perform for five minutes at each show.

The free concerts are held Sundays throughout the summer. Bring your own lawn chair.

The 23rd annual Michigan State Championship Old-Time Fiddlers Contest will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 4 during the Huron Township Applefest, 37283 Huron River Drive, New Boston.

Contestants will be judged on tempo, intonation, expression and repertoire. There is a $10 entry fee.

First prize earns $300, second prize is $200 and third prize is $100.
