The Southgate Community Players' "Playhouse Summer Series" kicks off with "Exits and Entrances" at 8 p.m. today and tomorrow at the Corner Playhouse, 12671 Dix-Toledo, Southgate. Tickets are $12.

The story follows the relationship between a young man on the threshold of his playwright career and an aging actor at the end of his career on the stage.

"Seussical Jr." continues the summer theater season Aug. 8 and 9 at Davidson Middle School, 15800 Trenton Road, Southgate.

Based on the books of Dr. Seuss, the musical is a mixture of many of his favorite books and characters, including The Cat in the Hat, Horton the Elephant and the Whos.

Show times are 7 p.m. Aug. 8 and 2 and 7 p.m. Aug. 9. Tickets are $8.

The tale of four Catholic girls coming of age in 1960s New York comes to the stage in "Catholic School Girls" at 8 p.m. Sept. 12, 13, 19 and 20 at the Corner Playhouse. Tickets are $12.

Rounding out the season is "Who Am I This Time?" a one-act play about a hardware salesman who only comes alive when he plays a character in local theater productions.

Creative Characters in conjunction with the Allen Park Parks and Recreation Department will host "CafÈ Murder," a comedic murder mystery dinner theater, Aug. 21 to 23 at the Allen Park Recreation Center, 15800 White St.

Audience participation is requested to figure out who in the restaurant has the strongest motive and opportunity as the murder mystery plays out.

Show times are 7 p.m. Aug. 21 and 22 and 4:30 and 7 p.m. Aug. 23.

Tickets are $10 a person and include a dinner of salad, bread, pasta, dessert and beverages.

Henry Ford Community College Theater will present the Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy-drama, "The Time of Your Life" Aug. 14 to 17 and Aug. 21 to 24 in the Adray Auditorium on the HFCC main campus, 5101 Evergreen Road, Dearborn.

The production, set in a San Francisco bar in 1939, examines the patrons' lives as they struggle with their destinies in an ever-changing and dangerous world.

Show times are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays.

The 2008 Michigan Shakespeare Festival wraps up Sunday at Baughman Theater on the campus of Jackson Community College.

On tap this year is "Julius Caesar," the Bard's exploration of conspiracy and the abuse of power, and the romantic comedy "All's Well That Ends Well."

Legendary performers will come to life in two classic stories headed to the Gem Theatre in Detroit.

"Say Goodnight, Gracie," the love story of comedians George Burns and Gracie Allen, will enchant audiences Sept. 9 to Nov. 16.

Frank, Sammy, Joey and Dean are swingin' once again as the popular tribute show "The Rat Pack is Back" visits the Gem Nov. 19 to Jan. 4.

The Bonstelle Theatre, 3424 Woodward Ave., Detroit, presents its 2008-09 season featuring "The Madwoman of Chaillot," Oct. 17 to 26; "It's a Wonderful Life," Dec. 5 to 14; "Mother Courage and Her Children," Feb. 20 to March 1; and "Hairspray" April 17 to 26, 2009.

The holiday season will kick off in style as "Irving Berlin's White Christmas" returns to the Fox Theatre Nov. 19 through Dec. 28.

The festive musical tells the story of two showbiz buddies putting on a show at a picturesque Vermont Inn and finding their true loves in the process.

Classic Berlin tunes such as "Sisters," "Count Your Blessings" and the title song are part of the show.

Season tickets and group orders are being taken for the 2008-09 season at the Fisher Theatre in Detroit.

People and puppets combine to serve up some offbeat humor in "Avenue Q," which starts the season in November, followed by the coming-of-age story "A Bronx Tale" with actor Chazz Palminteri in November and December.

Theatergoers can kick up their heels with the time-honored favorite "A Chorus Line" in January and then sharpen their blades as "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" slashes its way onstage in March.

"Grease" is the word in June as the delinquent Danny and goody-goody Sandy head a cast of Pink Ladies and T-Birds in the 1950s musical.

The hit musical "Jersey Boys" tops off the season in November 2009.

A lineup of special productions has been added to the 2008-09 season at the Detroit Opera House with the return of the Oz-tastic "Wicked" in December, followed by the rock opera "RENT" in February.

Other special productions include the tale of lovable orphan "Annie" in May, percussion sensation "Stomp" in April, Monty Python's musical comedy "Spamalot" in February and a special "Evening with Patti Lupone and Mandy Patinkin" in April.

Subscription season tickets are on sale and start at $210 for all six shows. Individual tickets will go on sale later.
